Yoshiko Sai - Taklamakan
Yoshiko Sai released four psych-folk classics from 1975 to 1978 before disappearing from the recording scene for three decades, returning only for 2008's "Takla Makan." Her sound here is just as excellent as her brief 70s career, but special mention must go to veteran guitarist Seiichi Yamamoto (formerly of Boredoms). Yamamoto's often distorted and heavily treated guitar phrases add a hard, ominous edge to Sai's ornate compositions. A brooding return to form for Sai, whose glorious artwork reflects the enigmatic contents within - a canvas much larger than its LP format.
